Great Butts Think Alike

Within the span of one week, we lost both Lexie and Katy. Although it should not have been unexpected, after all, Lexie was 14.5 yrs-old and Katy was 14, it still felt like a gut punch.

Lexie and Katy lived out their final years with us with unique, but similar eccentric sleeping styles.

Lexie had a rocky past. After being retired from racing, she went to Iams as a research dog. I believe she was there for several years before being adopted by an employee who kept her outside in their backyard. When they listed her on Craigslist, a greyhound rescue group picked her up, filthy, underweight, and covered in fleas.

When she came to us at the age of 10 she was stressed and skittish. She cried every time I left the room and jumped up every time there was a loud noise. But she was also playful and chased after her stuffed toys.

As she slowed down, she had hip and shoulder issues, I decided to let her walk at the park off-leash, because Kelso walked so fast. I knew she wasn’t going to run off. She became more confident and relished the ability to take her time smelling whatever she wanted.

We adopted Katy when she was 13. She was losing her home of over 10 years because her owner could no longer care for her.

Her entry into our life was traumatic, but over time (and with medication) she settled into life with us. She was sweet and made me laugh, just like her previous owner said she would.

You will be missed, Lexie and Katy. You made us smile and laugh. The world and our lives are less sweet in your absence.
