Laurel, Mississippi

While we were n Oklahoma we had an overdue oil change. We were told we had an oil leak. Not sure if it was the minor leak our mechanic had told us about or a bigger issue, we decided to go to Florida. Karr Automotive (Good Karrma) is in Fort Myers and the mechanics are experts in Delicas. We made an appointment and started to make our way there.

Leaving Arkansas we entered Mississippi. This is another state I have never visited. We started out in the Delta and ended up in the hilly forests. We were surprised to see a sign for the Mississippi Petrified Forest. I had never heard of a Petrified Forest outside of Arizona. We stopped but didn’t spend the money to tour it, It will be something to look forward to in the future.

While in Mississippi wanted to stop in Laurel. That is the location of my favorite HGTV show, Home Town. Ever since I started watching that show, I think while we were stranded in Hays, Kansas, I had fallen in love with the stars, Erin and Ben. Their warm, joyful personalities and design aesthetic drew me in. I wanted them to remodel a home for me one day. First, we had to see the town for ourselves and decide if it would go on the list of places to move to in the future.

We walked around downtown, but most places were closed because it was Sunday. We also drove around some of the nearby residential streets. I particularly liked the neighborhood around the park with the skatepark. It was pretty chilly, so we didn’t pull out our boards. Unfortunately, even though DeSoto National Forest was outside of town, we couldn’t confirm any free camping, so we moved on. At least we got to drive through it. I want to come back to explore another time.
