Flora of the Forest

Large Flowered Trillium

I felt lucky to be camping in the forests of Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia as winter turned to spring. Flowers were blooming all over, many of which I had never seen before. There were lots of opportunities to practice close-up photography.

When I first saw these plants, I wasn’t sure if they were flowers or fungi. It turns out that they are fleshy parasitic flowers that live off of oak tree roots. I found them fascinating.
