Our destination after Utah was Colorado. After spending a few weeks in the beauty of Utah, we were underwhelmed upon entering Colorado. Fortunately, there was a different kind of beauty just a few hours away.
But first, we had to find a place to stay. There was free BLM land very close to the next place we were visiting. Not the flattest sites. Not the cleanest sites, Not the easiest road to navigate. But free.

The next morning, we headed out to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Once again, we had stayed within a short walking distance from the entrance of a national park. We feel very lucky to be able to live this life. Of course, we did drive to it.

The Gunnison River created this canyon over two million years, creating some of the steepest cliffs and oldest rocks in North America. At the bottom, it is only 40-feet wide. The steep cliffs and narrowness prevent much sunshine from reaching into it, hence the name Black Canyon.
It had its own unique beauty and was the most pet-friendly of the non-pet-friendly national parks we had visited so far. Poppy was allowed on all of the trails to the scenic overlooks.
Below are some pictures to give you a sense of the beauty.

Once again, we were awed by a place we had never heard of before we visited. It was small (only 48 miles long) but left a powerful impression. My pictures don’t do it justice.
